For no good reason, I'm feeling a lot better today! Yesterday was just... heavy. Today, I feel like we can do this.

Here we go!

9:33 pm - 34 ...what was that about the pendulum?
Thanks for all the birthday wishes and things (on here, Twitter, FB, etc)! It's been really heartwarming. :)

It's been kind of a rough birthday, I have to admit. Damon found out this morning that his company is restructuring, and he's out of a job. On top of the financial concerns, I've got some big medical procedures and things coming up, and there goes our health insurance.

It's a lot all at once. I'm grateful for how blessed we are, and really disappointed. Back and forth (forever).

We just ordered some Chinese food and turned on the tv.

If anyone knows of anyone who is hiring, please let us know.

current mood: numb

11:04 pm - Choochoo.
Meeting my thyroid surgeon in the morning.

I can't remember anything I wanted to ask him. I've worked so hard to not think about it that I haven't thought about it. I'll take your suggestions though! What would you ask the person who was going to take out your thyroid?

12:06 pm - The locking of journals
I've finally made this journal a bit more private. It goes back eight years, and it just seemed like a lot to have out there. I'm not sure how locked I'll keep it from here on out, but likely more than it has been.

If anyone is reading who would like to be added to the FL, let me know.

12:06 am - Have the time of your life
I very recently watched Dirty Dancing, and really, really enjoyed it. I will not apologize!

In keeping with the theme of the last post, I'll say that another little known fact is that we almost learned the Dirty Dancing finale dance for our wedding. Thankfully we skipped that and went for some proper dance lessons instead.

11:47 pm - Anniversary
Damon and I have been married for a year and two weeks, and we've now been together for 9 years. It's pretty incredible to think about. I am so blessed to be the wife of this amazing man. I think in our one year of marriage, we've grown as much, and been through as much as during the first 8 years together. It's been quite a year, and thank goodness we had each other for it!

By the way, I did find that I maybe went overboard with keeping the wedding madness off of LJ. I went back to read about it, to relive the magic and the madness, and there was so very little there! So I've been working on a wedding summary post. Maybe with pictures even! Maybe I'll post it even! There was some event-drama that I'd still like to forget, but what I want to never lose is how magical the whole weekend was. Beautiful, intoxicating, and just exploding with love between us, friends, and family. Just overwhelmingly beautiful.

So, right. The anniversary! We celebrated our anniversary with a fairly last minute (and brilliant!) decision to go to Monterey. It was essentially my first time there. I'd been to Asilomar for the silent retreat earlier this year, but I never ventured off the conference grounds/beach. Damon and I headed down on Saturday afternoon (June 6). We were there by early evening, and had plenty of time to explore the Cannery shops and watch the sea lions. It's super touristy, but still there are some really great shops in there. Worth sorting through to find the gems. Also, lots of candy.

After shopping we had a nice Thai dinner (best fresh spring rolls we've ever had, but do skip the tom kha gai), then got some drinks and went back to our gorgeous hotel. So romantical. Well, maybe not specifically the part where we were mesmerized by the Cricut infomercial. It's a great looking machine though! Anyone have any experience with it?

Sunday morning we went shoe shopping for new fancy sneakers, then off to the Aquarium. A little known fact about us is that we love going to aquariums together. Something about fish. Mostly cuttlefish (our wedding very almost had a cuttlefish theme...another little known fact). We were not disappointed, as the cuttlefish babies had just hatched. Oh so many cuttlefish.

If you have a chance to go to the aquarium while the seahorse exhibit is up (is it going away?), I can't recommend it strongly enough! It was absolutely brilliant. There were full-grown seahorses the size of an eyelash. Seahorses that look like trees, with leaves! Seahorses of all varieties. And the exhibit so well done. Perfectly set up, excellent music, beautifully lit, stunning artwork.

We left the aquarium, and then stopped at the Tiki Room. And then experienced extreme sadness that we had not stopped there first thing Saturday! It's a great bar, and they have a full menu and restaurant. Very well decorated, with an extremely nice and accommodating staff. The food looked incredible. We shared only one drink, but it was a pretty good Painkiller. Made without Pussers, okay, but still excellent. They have another restaurant/bar in Santa Cruz.

Perhaps we saved the best for last, with Asilomar. I showed Damon where the retreat was, and shared with him what is perhaps my favorite beach. It may even top Mallorca. We climbed around on the rocks, explored the tide pools, sat and watched the waves as the sun began to set. Perfection.

It was a really lovely anniversary, and I'm so glad we did it. We're kind of itching to get back down there, as it's just so beautiful. The perfect balance of extreme beauty and fun! Hey, just like us! ;D
